So far, two people have announced their intention to be the Liberal candidate in the upcoming provincial election.

The MHA for Corner Brook, Gerry Byrne, won’t be seeking reelection. After nearly three decades of political life, he says at this point, it’s the right move for him. Byrne’s public life started as Chief of Staff for the former federal Fisheries Minister. He was elected 7 times federally and 3 times provincially and served on 17 House of Commons committees. Byrne served in the federal cabinet of Jean Chretien, the youngest in our province’s history to ever be appointed. He says his best supporter has always been by his side and he and his wife will celebrate 25 years of marriage in September.

Byrne says there will be a “Gerry Byrne” on the ballot again some day. His son starts law school in the fall and is his best friend.

So far, two people have announced their intention to be the Liberal candidate for Corner Brook in the upcoming provincial election. On social media today, Pat Hickey made his announcement and this morning, Mayor Jim Parsons issued a news release on his plans for the nod.
