Mayor Jim Parsons says Marina embodied the spirit of what the new centre represents.

Marina Redmond served the city of Corner Brook for 27 years, most of that time spent as city clerk. She passed away  in 2023 after a battle with cancer. Yesterday, at Grenfell Campus the new recreation center was named in her honour during a special ceremony. Mayor Jim Parsons says Marina embodied the spirit of what the new centre represents. He says she played just about every sport at some point in her life, and when she wasn’t playing, Marina was organizing and volunteering. Marina Redmond is survived by her lifelong partner, Paul, and two children. He says her love for sport was immeasurable. Marina was one of the people who brought the sport of pickleball to Corner Brook but Paul says for her, it was never about winning, but about equal opportunities. The new multi-million dollar facility will celebrate a grand opening on May 24th, more details to come.
