The 2:30 am deployment ended happily when the missing pair were found 6 hours later and were in good health.
Twelve members of the Volunteer Bay of Islands Search and Rescue team were called out early Monday morning to help find a couple of missing berry pickers. It was in a remote location on Logger School Road just outside of Corner Brook. The 2:30 am deployment ended happily when the missing pair were found 6 hours later and were in good health. Member Krista Tarbett was not involved in the search itself but was at the debriefing. She says they managed to get a cell phone signal and a female called her father to let him know they were lost. Tarbett says the pair had means to start a fire and had extra clothing. She says it’s important to have a trip plan, even for berry picking. Tarbett says there are a lot of roads and trails in the area and members used ATV’s and vehicles to search. Tarbett says it’s also important to always take along snacks and water if heading into wooded areas.
