The Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer is involved and police are looking to identify and speak to the dog’s owner.

The RNC say it happened around 1:30 a.m. and the driver failed a roadside screening test.

When police tried to speak with the driver, he fled in the opposite direction. In the interest of public safety, RCMP did not pursue the vehicle but started patrolling the Hawkes Bay and Port Saunders areas.

President Greg Whalen says the application was sent in October, they made  it through the second phase in January and found out last month they would be getting the grant.

They will host an event on June 17th in partnership with Deer Lake Fire Rescue for residents and staff will be on hand to answer questions about Voyent Alert and help residents with setting it up.

Owner Nadine Margeson says when she arrived at work, employees were holding signs demanding fur treatment and were less than impressed that the shop dog was getting more attention.
