A report by the province’s Auditor General paints a bleak picture of the lack of progress on recommendations that were made by her office as far back as 2017. Denise Hanrahan delivered her report to the House of Assembly yesterday. She says this report covers audit reports issued from 2016 to 2020 and provides a status update on those recommendations. Hanrahan says there were 172 recommendations issued and 69 are outstanding covering 18 topics in 20 entities, effectively 2 out of 5 recommendations have not been dealt with. The volume of unresolved recommendations - after six years – is also concerning. These areas have gaps that require further attention while risks remain, or new ones created. Hanrahan says they hope when people see this they will ask government about the status of these recommendations. Some of the recommendations highlighted that many government departments and entities have areas where they could improve, services could be more efficient and savings may be realized with more effective program delivery.
