An iconic man was laid to rest yesterday in Deer Lake. Anyone who has been to the Hodder in the town surely recognized Derick Fudge, the voice behind the coda phone number 2941 at the Hodder Memorial Centre. Mayor Mike Goosney says as the recreation coordinator, his positive influence on countless youth, from announcing to coaching summer sports programs in various sports, will remain immeasurable. He says Fudge as he was commonly called, had a special way of making everyone feel proud of themselves and knew how to instill confidence.The Mayor has a post on his social media page with a clip from an event at the Hodder emceed by Derek Fudge. Goosney attended the funeral yesterday and says it’s very rare to meet such a special person. Goosney says Fudge and his iconic voice will be remembered for years to come.
