Snowmobilers are eager to take to the trails but there may not be enough snow in some areas, and the ice is nowhere near frozen. Glenn Green is the President of the Western Sno-Riders snowmobile club here on the west coast. He says on average, there are about 3,000 season pass holders each year. Green says riders have to be careful early in the season since there could be hazards that haven’t been marked yet. He says those getting a new sled, need to look through the owner's manual and become familiar with things like changing spark plugs and belts. Green says it’s important to have extra parts since snowmobilers tend to travel further into backcountry so they should have things on hand. He says alcohol and drugs should never be part of a snowmobile ride. Green says when the season is in full swing, snowmobilers should keep to the right of the trail, keep speeds down, mark hazards and report them, and always have a trip plan to leave with loved ones.
