Federal Minister Gudie Hutchings says there are 70,000 children in NL under the age of 14 who will now have access to healthy food to start their day.
Rural Economic Development and ACOA Minister Gudie Hutchings announced a new federal program for school food on Bayfm yesterday afternoon. While spending some time in her Long Range Mountains riding, Hutchings says this pre-budget announcement includes a billion dollars for a National School Food Program, taking pressures off families and making sure kids have enough food. Hutchings says Canada was the only G7 country without a national school food program. Hutchings says there are 70,000 children in NL under the age of 14 who will now have access to healthy food to start their day. Funding will be provided through the Canada Social Transfer Program.
