Ten people are facing 102 charges as a result of an interprovincial drug trafficking and contraband tobacco smuggling investigation.  Last November, RCMP Federal Policing – Eastern Region displayed what was the province’s largest seizure of over 20 kgs of cocaine worth about $1.6 M on the street, and 9.5 million cigarettes worth about $2.6M. Today in St. John’s, Inspector David Emberely read a list of those charged as a result and they are from St. John’s, Portugal Cove-St. Phillip’s, Mount Pearl and Hamilton, Ontario.

The investigation started in February 2023, and focused on organized crime groups trafficking cocaine from British Columbia and contraband tobacco from Ontario into the province. Additional items seized included quantities of methamphetamine, MDMA, illicit cannabis and hashish, firearms, cash and eight vehicles. The combined value of all items seized was estimated at nearly $5 million. Emberley says there will be more people charged, one from outside the province. Those charged have court appearances set for later this month and early November.
