Sustainable CAP is a five-year, $3.5 billion initiative that aims to strengthen the competitiveness, innovation, and resiliency of Canada’s agriculture, agri‐food and agri‐based products sector.

Federal, provincial, and territorial Agriculture Ministers are in New Brunswick for their annual meeting. They spoke to the media at 12:30 today. Federal Agriculture Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau, says Sustainable CAP is a five-year, $3.5 billion initiative that aims to strengthen the competitiveness, innovation, and resiliency of Canada’s agriculture, agri‐food and agri‐based products sector. The Minister says they make decisions based on science, especially in the agricultural world, and they are confident with the work of the Pest Management Regulatory Agency, the way they allocate the right to use pesticides is safe. She says they have also made a voluntary decision to not use pesticides at the federal level for cosmetic purposes, this does not include farmers. She says there was a fair bit of discussion on how to achieve a sustainable agriculture strategy. The Minister says it’s important farmers have the tools they need. Meanwhile, the federal Agriculture Minister will be in Little Rapids on Monday for a special announcement. Marie-Claude Bibeau will be joined by provincial Fisheries, Forestry and Aquaculture Minister Elvis Loveless. The event gets underway 10 a.m. at Hammond Farms.  This will be the official launch of Newfoundland and Labrador’s cost-shared programming under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP) on Monday, July 24.
