Convicted murderer Malcolm Norman Cuff of Corner Brook is getting day parole. The 66-year-old was handed a life sentence in 1983 for the abduction, rape and murder of 20-year-old Marilyn Ann Newman. He also pled guilty to the 1979 death of Janet Louvelle. Helen Cleary Escott is a former head of RCMP NL Media Relations and she is also the author of a series of crime thrillers. She says Cuff was granted day parole even though police and families of his victims were against it. In its decision, Cleary-Escott says the Parole Board of Canada does not say in which city or province Cuff will live in.
