Government is launching a new challenge to create a Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage Innovation Challenge. It’s part of an effort to speed up decarbonization of the offshore. The Department of Industry, Energy and Technology is inviting expressions of interest for financial support to qualifying businesses, organizations and researchers engaged in research and development focused on the development of CCUS in Newfoundland and Labrador’s offshore. Up to $6 million in Provincial Government funding has been allocated for two streams of work: research and development and support for studies of the potential and feasibility of the offshore to serve as a regional CCUS hub for storage of carbon dioxide. The funding can support up to 50 percent of eligible project costs.
