Crystal Green is a social worker, councillor, and a trainer for the ASIST, or Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training program. She says these numbers are underreported mainly because of the stigma and actual numbers are about five times higher. Since 1983, over two million people have been trained through ASIST in over 30 countries worldwide. Green says it provides a safe place for people to talk with someone. She says there are many resources available online and in this region, like the Bridge the Gapp website and Doorways here in Corner Brook and Deer Lake, which offer walk-in or one-on -one counselling.
