Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver fled down a nearby trail.
RCMP Traffic Services West arrested an ATV operator in the Bay St. George area on Saturday after he fled from police carrying three passengers. At approximately 8:15 p.m. an officer noticed the ATV traveling down Main Road in Lourdes with four people on board, including a child. None of them were wearing helmets. Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver fled down a nearby trail. An officer pursued on foot and found one passenger who had been thrown from the ATV. The vehicle was located a short time later, with the operator and remaining two passengers.
No injuries were reported. The ATV was seized and impounded. The 38year old man who was operating the ATV provided a breath sample that was above the provincial limit but below the criminal threshold for impaired driving. He was issued a seven-day license suspension. He also faces charges of flight from police, dangerous operation and operating a vehicle with a suspended license. He was released from custody, and is due to appear in court in October.
