CFS-NL Chairperson Nicolas Keough says students are concerned these cuts will lead to a reduced programs and course offerings, and the removal of student services.
The Canadian Federation of Students (CFS-NL) is raising the alarm over budget cuts recently announced by Memorial University. The facility is cutting spending by about $21M and 20 positions have been made redundant. CFS-NL Chairperson Nicolas Keough says students are concerned these cuts will lead to a reduced programs and course offerings, and the removal of student services. Keough says this latest reduction, coming three years after an extreme tuition hike, are further repercussions from 12 years of cuts to Memorial’s operation grant by the provincial government. Meanwhile, Grenfell’s engagement office will receive additional one-time funding.
