Jim Parsons says there are still issues with recruitment at Western Memorial Regional Hospital and a new cancer care unit with no one to work there.
It’s called the Corner Brook Health Community Health Centre and 45 beds in a home-like setting will be opened for long term care patients or alternate level of care. Mayor Jim Parsons says municipalities in the region met with NL Health Services last Thursday for an update and many people expected this would happen. He says the old hospital is there and it’s a viable option for a short term measure and there are still services there. Parsons says the emergency at the new hospital is experiencing backlogs and with the intake, there are no beds available. He says there are still issues with recruitment at Western Memorial Regional Hospital and a cancer care unit with no one to work there. Meanwhile, Parsons says he has heard there’s been good progress in the recruitment for an emergency room physician but this could still take time to put in place.
