Mayor Jim Parsons says the area is a protected water supply zone under discretionary use and as such there is a specific procedure including public consultation.

Corner Brook Pulp and Paper has appealed council’s decision against harvesting in the watershed area. The issue was brought up during this week’s public meeting. Mayor Jim Parsons says the area is a protected water supply zone under discretionary use and as such there is a specific procedure including public consultation. Parsons says now an adjudicator with Municipal Affairs will review the appeal and this happens quite frequently on discretionary decisions by council. He says it all has to do with process. The appeal can’t be overturned but another hearing may be required.
