Starting tomorrow, (Tuesday, April 1st), the City of Corner Brook will provide free bus passes to eligible residents. This initiative aims to support residents on income support, youth receiving youth services, and seniors receiving the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS). Aaron O’Brien is the city’s Assistant Director of Engineering. He says the city has had a number of conversations with the provincial government about this. Youth and income support clients will be contacted directly but seniors receiving the GIS can obtain their monthly passes by visiting City Hall starting tomorrow, April 1st. O’Brien says upwards of 2,000 residents are eligible for this service. A government-issued ID and proof of GIS will be required. Passes can be renewed monthly through the online system or at City Hall. The program is made possible through funding from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.
