Chief Stephen Rowsell says the main qualifications are the desire to do it and the time to commit.
Deer Lake Fire Rescue has 27 volunteer firefighters in the team but they are looking for new members. Chief Stephen Rowsell says they are having a rec recruitment drive and anyone interested can get an application at the town office. He says the main qualifications are the desire to do it and the time to commit.
On Thursday last week, 7 members responded to a call at 3:47 a.m. to help the neighboring community of Cormack battle a blaze at a business on Route 430. Rowsell says they have what’s called “Mutual aid” agreements with nearby communities to help when needed.
Anyone interested in joining the team at Deer Lake Fire Rescue can also drop by the firehall.
