It’s that time of year when the beautiful colors of Corner Brook fall to the ground to make way for Halloween. For the next couple of weeks, residents will be filling up bags with leaves as the fall clean up begins. Mayor Jim Parsons says the city is working on a fall leaf collection for the start of November. He says wet weather and melting snow creates a bigger problem later on. Put them to the curb in clear bags and leaves are placed into compost. Parsons says diverting leaves also saves the city money at the landfill and it’s the green thing to do. Meanwhile, he says this is “leaves only” and there will not be a fall bulk garbage pickup. He says the city is working “on some kind of spring bulk cleanup but are also discussing options with the Western Regional Waste Management on ways to make it easier to use the dump.
