Firesmart ways to keep your home safe from wildfires

    Level 3 Conservation officer Sara Richards says the main objective of the program is to reduce the number of homes burned during wildfires.

    Homeowners can protect their properties from forest fires in many ways. Forestry officials hosted a FireSmart awareness event in St. John’s yesterday. Level 3 Conservation officer Sara Richards talked about ways people can reduce the risks of wildfire on homes. She says the main objective of the program is to reduce the number of homes burned during wildfires. Richard says most homes destroyed by wildfires, could have been saved with just a few precautions, like removing trees that are close to your home and keeping gutters clean.
