It’s an education and outreach initiative in which the Speaker and House officials will travel to various areas of the province with the Mace, visiting schools and hosting broader community events. The purpose is to increase citizen engagement with Parliament for people in areas who cannot readily visit the Legislature in person. The Mace tour also complements commemorations for the 75th anniversary of Confederation, given that the current Mace was gifted from the Province of British Columbia upon Newfoundland and Labrador joining Canada as its 10th province. The inaugural tour is set to start Monday, June 3rd.
