Byrne says binding decisions on final collective agreement language by third parties, coupled with a right to strike or lockout, are two approaches that are incompatible under any understood collective bargaining principle.

Fisheries Minister Gerry Byrne, has met with processors and the union this week to talk about management of the 2025 snow crab fishery. Last year’s fishery was very controversial with disagreements over pricing. Byrne says both the FFAW and the ASP agree on a better way of conducting our fishery. Meanwhile, he says binding decisions on final collective agreement language by third parties, coupled with a right to strike or lockout, are two approaches that are incompatible under any understood collective bargaining principle. Byrne says the Act will be amended for conventional free collective bargaining to be conducted directly between the two parties, including the right to strike or lockout.
