Government gives green light to Indian Head Hatchery expansion in Stephenville

    The intention is to improve production capacity and quality of salmon smolts and to increase salmon aquaculture production in the province.

    Government has accepted an environmental impact statement on an expansion plan for the Indian Head hatchery in Stephenville. The proponent needs this expansion  to provide smolts to their licensed sea cages. The intention is to improve production capacity and quality of salmon smolts and to increase salmon aquaculture production in the province. It will include upgrades to improve efficiency of the existing facility; expansion of the hatchery; and new supporting infrastructure such as freshwater and saltwater supply and effluent treatment and discharge.
