Government has released a document dealing with Squatter's Rights.
It’s called “What We Heard,” and is available at engageNL. In January, the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture asked for feedback regarding proposed changes to clarify adverse possession of Crown lands – commonly referred to as “Squatters’ Rights” – and protect people’s land interests.
The department received 124 submissions via an online questionnaire and 22 written submissions. Eleven individuals representing six organizations attended a virtual stakeholders’ session. All feedback will be considered as the Provincial Government explores potential amendments to section 36 of the Lands Act.
