Grenfell Campus soil scientist talks about work with the NL Living Lab

    Dr Yeukai Katanda says NL Living Lab is a collaborative research project and they are working with local farmers to do on-farm research.

    The Centre for Research and Innovation in Corner Brook recently hosted a NL Living Lab workshop. The event brought together NL Living Lab scientists from Grenfell Campus, Memorial University; Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada; the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture; and representatives from the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Agriculture. Dr Yeukai Katanda is a soil scientist who currently works as a research assistant/postdoctoral fellow supporting agricultural research at Grenfell Campus. She says NL Living Lab is a collaborative research project and they are working with local farmers to do on-farm research. Katanda says the NL Living Lab focuses on studying beneficial management practices such as cover crops to improve carbon sequestration and reduce GHG emissions in horticulture crops including potatoes, strawberries and more.
