Five crew members of His Majesty’s Canadian Submarine Corner Brook are in Corner Brook this week to mark the 20th anniversary of the commissioning of the submarine.There are various events planned with different community groups. The crew will meet with the Mayor at city hall around 11 this morning. There will be an open house and recruiting event at the 2nd Battalion Royal Newfoundland Regiment Armoury beginning at 1 pm. Tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock there will be a swearing in ceremony of local aspiring junior officers joining the Reserve Officer Training program. The former HMS Ursula was laid up by the Royal Navy in June 1994. Canada accepted her and named her HMCS Corner Brook on February 21, 2003. That year, the sub was commissioned as HMCS Corner Brook on June 29th in her namesake city.
