Passes to cover admission will be valid until 2030 and a Status Indigenous Card is required to get one.
Passes are now available at Parks Canada or historic sites throughout NL free of charge for Qalipu members. It’s an initiative created in 2014 to eliminate barriers and create better relationships with Indigenous People and is known as the “Indigenous Peoples Open Doors Program.” Karen Wolfrey is the Visitor Experience Manager with Parks Canada. On Bayfm’s Qalipu Today this week, she says the passes can be hung on rear view mirrors giving access to 2 National Parks, including Gros Morne and 7 historical sites in NL. This is a new agreement with Qalipu First Nation just signed in March of this year. Wolfrey says these passes cover admission only and there could be other costs for things like camping. Passes will be valid until 2030 and a Status Indigenous Card is required to get one.
