Powerschool experienced a cybersecurity incident on Tuesday, January 7 but the provider has assured government the account has been shut down. It’s a platform used in the provincial K-12 education system.

Education Minister Krista Lynn Howell says the incident is not specific to here and PowerSchool has notified customers in multiple jurisdictions in North America. She says the next step is to figure out the extent of the breech and number of individuals affected. Meanwhile, there has been no disruption to the daily operations of schools or classroom instruction. PowerSchool has stated that the incident has been contained and they have increased security within their systems to prevent further incidents.
