16 year old Meredith Hayden took time out of her busy schedule to chat with Lenny Benoit on Bayfm. The local grade 11 student is also an alpine snowboarder who just marked a major step forward in her competitive career. At the Junior National Championships in Horseshoe Valley, Ontario, she earned a gold medal in Parallel Giant Slalom (PGS), silver in Parallel Slalom (PSL), silver in Banked Slalom, and finishing 2nd overall in the Junior Women’s FIS category. She says the week long event started with training.
2017 was the first time she started skiing but for Hayden, it was an easy switch to snowboarding.
In 2019, Hayden quickly discovered a passion and talent for alpine competition. In 2022, while training at Mont Tremblant, she began working with her current coach, who also coaches the Canadian National Team and international athletes.
In 2023, Hayden was part of the Canada Winter Games and last fall, expanded her international experience with a five-week summer training camp in Chile.
