On Saturday, the newly renovated Marina Redmond Centre opened in Corner Brook. A partnership between the city and Memorial University when the Grenfell Campus pool announced its closure after forty years of service in 2015. MHA Gerry Byrne says it was an important and proud ceremony of a freshly renovated project of innovation.. He says the total cost of around $25M was the cost of building the entire civic centre in 1999.

Grenfell’s Dr. Ken Jacobsen says this new centre will mean the return of the Grenfell Warriors and it will be an asset to student recruitment. He says it was a sad day when the pool closed ten years ago, and they knew what was next would be a “heavy lift.”
The Centre includes aquatic and recreational facilities, with a hot tub, water slide, lazy river, pool, and a daycare. Mayor Parsons says you can’t talk about the Centre, without talking about Marina Redmond and her legacy to the city.
