Pavement patching work will soon be a common thing in Corner Brook. Council approved a bid by Marine Contractors Inc. during Monday night’s regular meeting. Councillor Bill Griffin says project tenders closed last month with only one bidder. The sole bid at over $441,000 was approved and pricing is based on $115.50 per square metre of asphalt pavement. Councillor Vaughn Granter asked if there was a time frame built into this new contract. Director of Community, Engineering, Development and Planning Director Darren Charters says he’s not aware of a time frame being part of the contract but will look into it. Patching cost in 2023 was $105 per square meter, the 2024 patching cost has increased 9.1% since last year.
