Today is the start of Forest Fire Season, which is in effect until the end of September.

A permit is now required to burn vegetation, wood and paper products. Permits can be obtained at Forest Management District Offices. A permit to burn is not needed for backyard fires, campfires, or boil-ups on forest land, or within 300 metres. The fire must be in accordance with strict Provincial Forest Fire Regulations.

Anyone caught not following the rules may face fines and penalties, and costs of fighting a forest fire. Always check the online forest fire hazard rating maps to determine the level of risk. Anyone planning fires within a municipality should check with local fire officials first.
