May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, RCMP NL advises safety first

    Cpl Jolene Garland says motorcycle operators need to follow the speed limit, drive sober, check blind spots, wear a helmet, and consider wearing highly visible clothing.

    May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month and as riding season begins, RCMP NL reminds people that road safety is everyone's responsibility. There will soon be an increase of motorcycles on our roadways. Cpl Jolene Garland says motorcycle operators need to follow the speed limit, drive sober, check blind spots, wear a helmet, and consider wearing highly visible clothing. Garland says other motorists need to remember that motorcycles are much smaller than other vehicles. She says give motorcyclists their space by increasing your following distance. Keep your eyes on the road - don't drive while distracted or fatigued, Check, and double check, blind spots and mirrors, remembering that motorcycles are much smaller than other vehicles, Give motorcycles space on the roadway – increase your following distance.
