The program supports risk assessments, fuel management planning, and mitigation activities.

Government is launching the Newfoundland and Labrador Community Wildfire Prevention and Mitigation Program and there’s money available for communities looking to develop a plan. The program supports risk assessments, fuel management planning, and mitigation activities. It also strengthens community-level emergency preparedness by providing guidance to property owners to help them protect their homes from wildfires. Communities are encouraged to apply for funding to develop Community Wildland Fire Resiliency Plans. These will include education, emergency planning, vegetation management, and other wildfire prevention and mitigation projects. The deadline to apply is March 10th and more information is available at firesmart@gov.nl.ca
