There’s a new Caregivers Support Group in Corner Brook for those living with mental illness. It was started by two members of the community, known as Anne and Beulah. Anne says her youngest of five children was diagnosed with a mental illness and it’s been a journey for some years. The support group offers a safe place to share experiences with others who are also caring for loved ones living with a mental illness. Anne says they provide emotional and practical support, to foster a sense of community and help others feel less isolated. The group is in partnership with the Community Mental Health Initiative. Interagency Coordinator Jade Kearley says by connecting with others who understand, this support group can contribute to improved mental health, reduced stress, and enhanced coping skills. The group’s next meeting will be March 30th at 112 Premier Drive starting at 2p.m.
