The Stephenville Dymond International Airport is gearing up for new and exciting things. Owner Carl Dymond says they recently completed the installation of new runway lighting. He says this was a project started by Transport Canada a couple of years ago. Dymond says this will be one of the most advanced lighting systems in the country when complete. He says government has already invested $1.7 million into the project but they will be taking on the second phase, which is worth about $2.7 million to get taxiways done as well. Dymond says they expect to be complete by next June or July but are able to take flights now. Dymond says airlines are expressing an interest but the pandemic is still having an impact on numbers. He says there also has to be a viable market in place and it’s a work in progress.
