Anstey says the interest on debt alone is more than what provinces are getting for health care, people are struggling to make ends meet and this is driving up costs for Canadians at the end of the  day.

The federal government brought down a budget yesterday which will bring the national deficit to close to $80 billion. Long Range Mountains MP Carol Anstey says she won’t be supporting it. She says ultimately it does nothing to address how much everything costs and people in NL are looking for relief at the grocery store.

Anstey says the interest on debt alone is more than what provinces are getting for health care, people are struggling to make ends meet and this is driving up costs for Canadians at the end of the  day. She says the Conservatives wanted to keep the deficit at or below $42 billion and there are things government could have done to relieve some of the stress on people, like cutting the tax on fertilizer and farm equipment which costs get passed on to the consumer.

Anstey says it’s time to get rid of anti energy laws that exist which will move resource projects forward and not create another government department to try and solve problems. As well, she says consultants have to be removed because it’s a huge high cost and then the projects never move forward.
