Province wide fire ban in effect until September 7th

    Premier John Hogan says crews are in place and continue to battle these fires. He says some homes have been destroyed and about 20,000 hectares burned but no structures have been affected in Holyrood.

    The whole province is under a fire ban which will remain in place until September 7th due to extreme wildfire activity on the east coast. The town of Western Bay is the latest to be evacuated and an evacuation alert has been issued for Ochre Pit Cove. The town of Small Point-Adam’s Cove-Blackhead-Broad Cove as well as Kingston, Conception Bay South, and sections of Holyrood. Premier John Hogan says crews are in place and continue to battle these fires. He says some homes have been destroyed and about 20,000 hectares burned but no structures have been affected in Holyrood. Meanwhile, today’s Fire Hazard Rating is HIGH, VERY HIGH or EXTREME from central to eastern areas.
