Recent social media posts by RCMP NL show excessive speeds on our roadways with drivers clocked at doing 168 in a 100km/hr zone and 134 in an 80 zone. Traffic Services West Cst Derek Hayden joined Bayfm’s Lenny Benoit this morning to talk about speeding. He says there’s a reason for posted speed limits and engineers design highways with speed in mind. Hayden says this time of year is statistically known to be prime time for vacationers and more traffic. He says fatalities are increasing and police are out to keep everyone safe. Hayden says people need to pay attention to speeds if they’re late leaving or being complacent while driving. He says speeding can lead to a suspended license, an impounded vehicle, and a hefty fine.
