RCMP Traffic Services West plans on increasing patrols in school zones and roadways for the next month as students have started heading back to school today. Cst Derek Hayden says kids are excited and it’s up to drivers to keep an eye out, have patience and slow down. He says motorists must be aware that when a school bus has its stop sign extended and lights flashing, all lanes of traffic in both directions have to stop. Hayden says drivers must be patient and avoid distractions in the vehicle. School zone speed limit signs in black and white are in effect 24-7. There are over 250 schools in NL.
