Recreational food fishery to start this weekend

    Retention limits are 5 groundfish per day, including cod and the maximum boat limit when three or more people are fishing is 15 groundfish.

    The Department of Fisheries has announced dates for the 2024  recreational food fishery. The summer season will start June 29th and end September 29th. It will take place each weekend from Saturday to Monday for a total of 39 days. There is no requirement for licences or tags. Retention limits are 5 groundfish per day, including cod and the maximum boat limit when three or more people are fishing is 15 groundfish. The recreational fishery is open to both residents and non-residents. Retention of Atlantic halibut, Spotted and Northern wolffish, and any species of shark is prohibited.  For safety reasons, fishing is only permitted from one hour before sunrise until one hour after sunset.
