At last night’s public meeting, Corner Brook city council was provided an update on the new automated garbage collection and dual-stream recycling program, which started nearly a month ago. O’Brien says it’s a balance of working with the public and helping them understand what’s going on. Call the city with any concerns and staff are there to help.
O’Brien says contamination of recyclable material is down to about 1 or 2 percent. He says staff were waiting on a shipment of stickers to be used on blue bags when there’s an issue with what’s inside. Once they did arrive, they wouldn’t stay stuck on the bags but this has now been resolved, meaning residents will see the reason why a bag was refused.
