Health Minister Tom Osborne says close to 500 private sector employees will become employees of NL Health Services, creating a provincial workforce of about 850 paramedicine professionals.
Effective tomorrow (June 1), residents of this province will be required to call 9-1-1 for an ambulance. It’s part of a provincial ambulance integration as Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services begins operations of all ambulance services. Health Minister Tom Osborne says close to 500 private sector employees will become employees of NL Health Services, creating a provincial workforce of about 850 paramedicine professionals. All staff becoming employees of NL Health Services will now receive public sector salary, benefits, and pensions. Osborne says first responders will be connected through a central command. He says with over 7 air ambulance providers, as well as over 60 private and community ambulance providers, it created a fragmented system. This will provide a more modern service with shorter wait times and better services bringing everyone together.
