The RCMP originally issued an advisory just before 3:00 Sunday afternoon stating the highway was completed closed.
As of 8:45 p.m., the RCMP advises that the Trans-Canada Highway closure 10km west of Hampden Junction has now been cleared. Police have confirmed that the closure was due to a motor vehicle collision. They say further information will likely be released tomorrow.

The RCMP is advising that traffic on the TCH approximately 10 kms west of Hampden Junction, near the Howley turnoff, will continue to be delayed throughout the evening. One lane is currently open intermittently, but traffic remains slowed. Please avoid the area or approach with caution, if necessary.
Police still have not confirmed the cause of the closure despite requests from BayFM, although several BayFM listeners have advised there was a motor vehicle collision.

The RCMP is advising motorists that the Trans Canada Highway approximately 10 kms west of Hampden Junction is currently impassable in both directions and will remain so for an unknown period of time.
The reason for the closure was not disclosed by police.
