Not many people are without a cell phone today and most of the electronics we use now are powered by lithium-ion batteries. That’s the focus as Fire Prevention Week kicks off this weekend. Phil Brinston is the Captain of Prevention and Inspection with the Corner Brook Fire Department. He says these batteries are in a lot of the things we use. If lithium-ion batteries are misused, damaged, or improperly charged, they can overheat, start a fire, or explode. Brinston says never use cords that are not specific to the brand of electronics you are using. Fire Prevention Week kicks off on Sunday, October 5th and goes until October 11th. This year's theme is "Charge Into Fire Safety."
