Mayor Bill Dawson says a boil water order was put in place Friday after 2 of the 4 samples taken by Service NL showed the presence of E-coli and low chlorine levels.

Water testing is continuing this week in light of E -coli being found in the supply at Steady Brook. Mayor Bill Dawson says a boil water order was put in place Friday after 2 of the 4 samples taken by Service NL showed the presence of E-coli and low chlorine levels. Dawson says their water system is a little complicated. He says it draws water from Steady Brook falls and when artesian wells were put in a while ago, it helped with the demand. Dawson says unfortunately last week they were drawing 100 percent surface water. There was heavy rain the previous week with a lot of runoff. Dawson says chlorine levels could have dropped for a number of reasons, such as high water temperatures and high usage. Residents are reminded to continue boiling drinking water.
