Last week, a special celebration was held at Confederation building to mark the 100th anniversary since women in the Dominion of Newfoundland earned the right to vote. In 1925, 92% of women voted in the election, sparking a movement of influencing women. Lieutenant Governor Joan Marie Aylward says since that time, many women have offered themselves for office at municipal, provincial and federal levels. Women and Gender Equality Minister Pam Parsons says it was a long road to get here. The first female NL Premier, Kathy Dunderdale was at the celebration.
