211 is the information line that connects everyone to the range of government, community, health and social services available throughout Canada. Now, this 24-hour service is available in over 150 languages. Trevor Freeborn is the coordinator for 211 Newfoundland and Labrador. He says it can be accessed by phone, chat, web or a downloadable app. Freeborn says their language capacity also includes Indigenous languages. Freeborn says one example of how they can help is with the new dental plan, getting callers the information and contacts they need. Wait times are less than a minute, it’s free and confidential and follow ups are provided when needed.
